White Butterbur belongs to the family of the butterbur. White butterbur has relatively small leaves. The plant propagates fairly easily through its rhizome. The leaves of the plant die late in the year and in February the flowers first come up and after flowering the decorative leaves appear. The plant grows in moist fertile soil and occurs naturally in the mountains of Central Europe. Like the Japanese Butterbur, the plant was planted in historical landscape gardens and can easily survive in that environment and is therefore counted among the Stinzenplants.

Schierstins, Stinze Stiens and Jongemastate are interesting places to see  the White Butterbur.
