The Lords-and-Ladies is native in some areas in the Netherlands and is a Red list species. Its main habitat  is in southern Limburg. The Lords-and-Ladies can be found often in the Stinzen environment next to the Italian Lords-and-Ladies, a species that originally did not occur naturally in the Netherlands, but does well in the Stinzen environment.

The Lords-and-Ladies are present in small numbers at Dekema State, in the Martenatuin (Franeker) and Stinze Stiens.
