Hackfort Castle, Vorden.

Snake’s Head Fritillaries, Summer Snowflakes and Oxlips along the brook at Hackfort Castle, Vorden.

West of Vorden (Gelderland) lies the Hackfort castle in a beautiful landscape of alleys, forests, fields, meadows and farms.

Every spring thousands of Stinzenplants bloom in the park forest: a ‘Stinzenplants palace’. In 2009 the Stinzenplants were inventoried at Hackfort. Back then, the forecourt of the castle was rich in spring bulbs, while in the forest large areas of Wood Anemones still existed.

At Hackfort, especially Stinzenplants were absent that bloom from mid-April to mid-June. The existing Stinzenplants have been supplemented with new varieties, which fit here, both historically and in color and the moment of flowering. Thousands of bulbs have been planted in recent years. The flowering period has been extended by planting later flowering varieties: Bluebells, Spanish hyacinths, Drooping Stars-of-Bethlehem and a spot with Great Bellflowers. Along the brook Snake’s head fritillaries, Summer Snowflakes and Oxlips. Furthermore Crocuses, Snowdrops, Spring Snowflakes and Lilies-of-the-Valley.
